Camp Red Cloud Passage Road Officially Named 'Siminpum-ro' (For the Citizens Road)
Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) announced on December 29 that, in celebration of the 63rd anniversary of its elevation to city status (January 1, 1963), it will officially designate a roughly 1-kilometer section of the Camp Red Cloud (CRC) passage road in the Ganeung-dong area as ‘Siminpum-ro’ (For the Citizens Road) starting January 1, 2026.

‘Siminpum-ro,’ a two-lane passage road, is a section that returned to the citizens after about 70 years, following the return of the former U.S. military base, Camp Red Cloud. The road opened on July 3, 2023. As a key connector between western Uijeongbu and Yangju, it improves accessibility and traffic flow, helping to resolve inconveniences previously caused by the use of detour roads.
Until now, this section did not have an official road name displayed on major navigation systems such as T Map and Kakao Map, leading to ongoing calls for the official designation of a road name.
In response, the city proposed ‘Siminpum-ro’ as the road name to reflect the historical and symbolic significance of the returned land and to address citizens’ inconveniences. The name was finalized after review by the Uijeongbu City Address Information Committee.
This measure aligns with the intent of the ‘Road Name Address Act’ (enforced on June 9, 2021), which allows the assignment of road names to farm roads, side roads, forest paths, and similar routes.
An official from Uijeongbu City stated, “The designation of this road name symbolizes that the land returned by the U.S. military has been fully restored as a living space for citizens. We will continue to improve road names and the address system to enhance citizen convenience and strengthen the city’s identity.”
