Solar Power Facilities to Be Installed at Three Public Sites
Providing Shade and Rest Areas for Citizens
Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province has secured a budget of 1.165 billion won from Gyeonggi Province for its solar power facility expansion project.
On December 29, Siheung City announced that three locations in the city were selected for Gyeonggi Province's "Gyeonggi Climate-Safe Shade Project," securing a total budget of 1.165 billion won.
This project is a specialized initiative fully funded by the province’s special adjustment grant. It aims to install solar power facilities on public buildings and shared land, while also providing climate adaptation benefits that citizens can directly experience, such as shade, rest areas, and improved landscapes.
The selected sites are: the outdoor parking lot at Podong Citizen Sports Complex, the Siheung Eco Center, and the Siheung Mobility Technology Support Center. The city plans to install solar power facilities with a total capacity of approximately 550 kW at these locations. Siheung City explained that, since the entire project budget will be covered by the special grant, it will be able to expand public RE100 initiatives without using its own funds.
At the outdoor parking lot of Podong Citizen Sports Complex, the project will both comply with the mandatory installation of solar panels at public parking lots and provide shade through solar panels installed above the parking area.
The Siheung Eco Center will be transformed into a RE100 practice space as a hub for environmental education, enhancing educational and experiential opportunities for citizens to directly experience the energy transition.
The Siheung Mobility Technology Support Center, which frequently hosts visits from companies and research institutions, will serve as a model case of industry-linked energy transition.
The city plans to fully launch the project next year, expanding the "Siheung-style Public RE100 Model" so that citizens can experience the results of the energy transition in their daily lives.
Siheung Mayor Lim Byung-taek said, "By expanding renewable energy in easily accessible spaces for citizens, we will create a leading city for energy transition that citizens can truly experience."
