Diagnosing Ongoing Uncertainties in Global Supply Chain Shifts
Emphasizing Strengthening Core Business Competitiveness and Achieving Visible AI Results
"We Must Focus on Areas Where GS Excels"
GS Group Chairman Huh Tae-soo emphasized the importance of being proactive in his New Year’s address for 2026, stating, "We must not simply observe change, but take the lead, execute ahead of others, and achieve tangible results this year."
On December 29, Chairman Huh said in his address, "Last year, the global supply chain underwent accelerated changes and the great transformation brought by artificial intelligence (AI) progressed rapidly, making the overall business environment more challenging than ever before. I sincerely thank all employees for their dedication and hard work in their respective roles despite these circumstances."
Chairman Huh predicted that uncertainties would persist into next year, and pointed out that the starting point for overcoming crises lies in strengthening core business competitiveness. He said, "With the trend of low oil prices and the potential for slowing demand, the structural changes surrounding the energy and chemical industries are unlikely to be resolved in the short term. If we fail to maintain the competitiveness of our existing businesses, no future can be guaranteed." He added, "We must proactively respond to change to maintain profitability, and meticulously implement measures to prepare for risks."
Chairman Huh also stressed the need to seek new opportunities amid rapidly changing market conditions. He stated, "The structural increase in electricity demand driven by the spread of AI, the energy transition, expanded investments in AI and the semiconductor industry, the reorganization of global supply chains, and demographic changes are all shaping a new business landscape. With its strong capabilities in energy, infrastructure, and operations, GS can proactively secure a variety of related business opportunities amid these changes." He further added, "If we organically combine the group’s capabilities, we can create new business opportunities and secure the competitive edge to lead the market."
In addition, Chairman Huh declared his intention to make 2026 the first year in which the use of AI translates into real results. He emphasized the need to turn ongoing AI initiatives at various sites into business innovation and profit generation. He said, "Our members have continued to make numerous new attempts using AI as a tool, and these efforts are gradually bringing about changes in the field. Now, we must combine the field-oriented domain knowledge we have accumulated with 'Physical AI,' and demonstrate business impact through bold partnerships with external technology companies."
