Gyeongsangnam-do Requests Travel Ban for 69 High-Value Local Tax Delinquents ... Total Unpaid Taxes Reach 7.3 Billion Won

Gyeongsangnam-do has requested the Ministry of Justice to impose an overseas travel ban on 69 high-value, persistent tax delinquents who have not paid local taxes and are suspected of hiding or fleeing assets abroad.

According to the province, these individuals have failed to pay more than 30 million won in local taxes and are considered at risk of concealing assets overseas or fleeing the country. The total amount of unpaid taxes amounts to 7.3 billion won.

If the Ministry of Justice approves Gyeongsangnam-do’s request for a travel ban, these individuals will be prohibited from leaving the country for up to six months starting in January 2026.

The travel ban is imposed on those who have failed to pay more than 30 million won in local taxes without a legitimate reason and meet certain criteria, such as being subject to public disclosure, having traveled abroad three or more times, or having stayed overseas for more than six months.

If requested by the mayor or county governor, the Ministry of Justice implements the measure after going through an approval process.

Gyeongsangnam-do announced that, in addition to this travel ban request, it will strengthen its response to high-value tax delinquents and uphold tax justice by concurrently enforcing various administrative sanctions, such as restrictions on licensed business operations and registration with credit information agencies.

Park Hyunsook, Head of the Taxation Division, stated, "We will continue to hold high-value and habitual tax delinquents fully accountable through strong measures such as travel bans, and we will do our utmost to realize tax justice through ongoing management of delinquent taxpayers."
