On the 26th, President Lee Jae-myung met with the families of those who died in hazardous duties and stated, "For the sacrifices made for the better lives, safety, and lives of our nation's members, our entire community must provide special respect and compensation that matches these extraordinary sacrifices with special care and affection."
President Lee held a luncheon at the Yongsan Presidential Office with the families of public officials, such as police officers, firefighters, and soldiers, who lost their lives while performing hazardous duties. He emphasized, "Our government will uphold the principle that extraordinary sacrifices for all must be met with extraordinary compensation," and made these remarks.
President Lee stressed, "It is said that it is difficult to find a country as safe as ours anywhere in the world," and added, "The reason the Republic of Korea has become such a safe country today is thanks to those who have quietly dedicated themselves to protecting the lives and safety of the people-especially the sweat, effort, sacrifice, and devotion of many public officials."
He continued, "On behalf of the people, I would like to express my gratitude and respect to those who have taken the lead in fulfilling the nation's duties in response to the urgent and earnest calls of our citizens."
President Lee also said, "I believe that you, as bereaved families, have also shared in this noble dedication for the people," and offered his condolences, saying, "During their lifetimes, you must have endured anxiety, quietly waited, and always hoped for their healthy return."
He further stated, "No words of comfort can truly ease your pain," and added, "As living witnesses who watched more closely than anyone else, I hope you will at least hold on to the pride and dignity that the courage and love of the fallen protected our neighbors and fellow citizens."
Additionally, President Lee reiterated his promise, saying, "I will make sure to build a country where sacrifices for the nation and community are met with appropriate treatment, and where devotion to the people is returned with pride and honor, so that your dedication and sacrifice will be repaid."
