Wellness tourism goes beyond simple relaxation or sightseeing, aiming to enhance physical, mental, and emotional health as well as the overall quality of life. It encompasses a variety of content, including nature and forest healing, healing and meditation, beauty and spa, oriental and traditional medicine, wellness stays, well-being food and healthy cuisine, and pet-related activities. Based on these characteristics, a new tourism market is emerging, centered on travelers who prioritize health, healing, and lifestyle.
Since 2017, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization have been fostering wellness tourism as a new growth engine for the tourism industry, certifying a total of 88 wellness tourism facilities by 2025.
This year, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization launched the '2025 Gyeonggi-type Wellness Tourism Revitalization Project' for the first time, selecting 15 facilities within the province. Among those selected, Mirinae Healing Club was recognized for excellence in the 'healing and meditation' category, while Bloomvista was recognized in the 'wellness stay' category. Notably, Mirinae Healing Club has also been certified as an 'excellent wellness tourism facility' by the Korea Tourism Organization.
At the plaque presentation ceremony, Governor Jeon Jinseon of Yangpyeong County said, "I sincerely congratulate you on being certified as a Gyeonggi-type wellness tourism facility," and added, "I would like to thank everyone who has worked hard on the ground for the development of tourism in Yangpyeong."
He continued, "For the continued growth of Yangpyeong's tourism industry, close cooperation between the county and tourism operators is more important than ever," and emphasized, "Let's continue to build Yangpyeong's unique tourism competitiveness together through mutual cooperation."
Meanwhile, the county plans to systematically connect and nurture wellness tourism resources within its jurisdiction, using this certification as an opportunity.
