Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on December 26 that it was selected as an outstanding local government in the general category of the "2025 Architectural Administration Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and received the Minister's Award.
This evaluation, conducted annually since 1999 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for local governments nationwide, is divided into a "general category," which assesses overall architectural administration such as the rationality of building permits and notifications, convenience in handling civil complaints, and the level of building safety management, and a "special category," which selects best practices each year based on different themes aligned with government policy directions.
Gwangmyeong City ranked first among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province in the general category, receiving high marks for ▲clarity and consistency of architectural review standards, ▲enhancing administrative credibility by shortening the processing period for building permits, ▲establishing and revising ordinances for building management to improve institutional foundations, and ▲improving the implementation rate of regular building inspections and establishing a safety management system.
The city has also made proactive efforts to link architectural administration with environmental and climate policies, such as continuously providing training for public officials to promote green buildings and establishing a data management platform for carbon emissions in the building sector.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "This award is the result of consistently improving architectural administration, recognizing it not as a mere procedure but as a core public service that protects citizens' safety and quality of life. We will continue to advance architectural administration to meet the changing architectural environment and citizens' expectations."
