Hampyeong County in South Jeolla Province is laying a solid foundation for the future with employment policies that encompass youth, middle-aged, and vulnerable groups.
On December 25, Hampyeong County announced that it had received the "Encouragement Award" in the 2025 Outstanding City and County Employment Creation Evaluation at the "Jeollanam-do Employment and Economy Grand Event," held at the Grand Hall of the Yeosu Expo Convention Center. This achievement comes seven years after the county last received an award in 2018.
South Jeolla Province holds the "Jeollanam-do Employment and Economy Grand Event" every year to enhance the employment creation capabilities of its 22 cities and counties and to revitalize the local economy. Alongside this event, the province also conducts an evaluation of outstanding cities and counties in employment creation.
This year's evaluation was based on a comprehensive set of employment-related performance indicators, including employment statistics, the rate of increase or decrease in the employment budget, youth employment, middle-aged employment, employment for vulnerable groups, employment support policies, and qualitative assessments.
Hampyeong County received high marks for its efforts to improve youth employment rates through a variety of employment policies, including region-linked youth entrepreneurship support programs, youth challenge support projects, youth employment challenges, region-led youth job creation projects, and youth retention incentive programs.
In addition, the county was praised for expanding its employment base to all demographic groups by implementing employment support policies tailored to local characteristics, such as customized employment education support programs for local talent, operation of employment counseling centers, employment support programs for the middle-aged, and training of festival specialists.
A Hampyeong County official stated, "It is very meaningful to be recognized for our achievements in job creation despite the ongoing economic downturn and difficult employment conditions," adding, "We will continue to develop high-quality jobs and effective employment support programs so that young people return and Hampyeong becomes a place where all residents can enjoy good work opportunities."
