Wiseman Retrospective to Screen Ten Films from 1979 to 1989

Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema announced on December 24 that it will hold the "Frederick Wiseman Complete Works Touring Retrospective - Part 2" in collaboration with the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival from December 30 to January 31 next year.

This is the second chapter of the "Complete Works Touring Retrospective," which began in October. Ten of director Wiseman's films from 1979 to 1989 will be screened. These include "Manoeuvre" (1979) and "Missile" (1987), which observe military training and nuclear deterrence systems; "Model" (1980) and "The Store" (1983), which track the image and consumer industries; "Racetrack" (1985), which sheds light on the world of horse racing; four films from the 1986 Alabama series that cover hearing and visual education and rehabilitation ("Deaf," "Blind," "Adjustment and Work," "Multi-Handicapped"); and "Near Death" (1989), which runs for 358 minutes. Many of the films will be screened in newly restored 4K DCP versions.

Director Wiseman is a documentary filmmaker known for shedding light on power, discipline, and humanity through observational camerawork and precise editing.
