Highly Praised for Encouraging Active Community Participation
Secures 100 Million Won in Special Grants
Ulsan City has firmly established itself on the path to becoming an "advanced international city."
The city was selected as an outstanding local government in the metropolitan government category in the "Korea Makeover" campaign conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing a special grant of 100 million won.
The Ministry quantitatively evaluated local governments during the "Korea Makeover" campaign period, which was launched ahead of the Chuseok holiday and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in September. The assessment covered △public relations (campaigns) and education, △policy cooperation, △level of participation by heads of institutions, and △results (achievements in environmental maintenance).
Afterward, the Ministry comprehensively considered the appropriateness and results of each local government's implementation plan, as well as best practices, and selected 75 local governments (6 metropolitan, 69 basic) that actively participated. A total incentive of 5 billion won in special grants will be awarded.
As a result, Ulsan City was selected as an outstanding local government in the metropolitan government category due to its active promotion efforts, participation by the head of the institution, and best practices, and will receive a special grant of 100 million won.
Since March, the city has formed a dedicated cleanup task force to improve the urban environment. Ulsan was highly praised for efficiently utilizing administrative resources, manpower, and budget by combining the government's nationwide campaign with regular local environmental maintenance, as well as for encouraging active participation from the local community through initiatives such as "one organization, one street" cleanups.
A city official stated, "We will continue to pursue systematic and ongoing urban environmental maintenance in preparation for the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo."
In the basic local government category, Dong-gu District in Ulsan was selected as the top local government, and Jung-gu District was selected as an outstanding local government. They will receive special grants of 100 million won and 50 million won, respectively.
