On this Christmas Eve, Minister Jeong visited the home of Kim Bonghwan (105), a separated family member residing in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. He remarked, "Separated families are the greatest sorrow caused by the division and a tragedy not only for individuals but for our entire nation."

According to the Ministry of Unification, Mr. Kim said, "After being separated from my parents and siblings during the Korean War, I have always hoped to meet my younger siblings who remain in my hometown." He requested at least confirmation of the survival of his family members who remain in the North.

In addition, the ministry plans to continue expanding the foundation for separated family exchanges, including the launch of a new project in 2026 to collect and digitize the life records of separated families.
