Two Gyeongbuk High School Students Selected for "Korea Talent Award"... Kim Dongyoung and Kim Naeon

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 24th that two high school students from the Gyeongbuk region-Kim Dongyoung, a third-year student at Gyeongbuk Software Meister High School (Uiseong), and Kim Naeon, a second-year student at Iseo High School (Cheongdo)-have been selected as recipients of the "2025 Korea Talent Award," hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation.


The "Korea Talent Award" was established to discover and encourage outstanding individuals who achieve remarkable accomplishments through wisdom and passion, create new value through creative thinking, and contribute to society based on consideration and a sense of community. Each year, 100 young people in Korea aged 15 to 34 are selected, with 40 high school students chosen nationwide in the high school and youth category.

This year, the two students from Gyeongbuk who were selected as awardees were recognized for their exceptional achievements in the fields of cybersecurity and robotics, and have been evaluated as talents who possess both expertise and a strong sense of social responsibility.


Kim Dongyoung, a third-year student at Gyeongbuk Software Meister High School, is a promising talent in the field of cybersecurity, having received the Minister of Education Award at the White Hacker Competition and the Young Scientist Award at the Asia-Pacific International Conference on Information Science and Technology (APIC-IST).


He has devoted himself to developing security technologies related to disaster response and national security, while also participating in security policy research and advisory activities, thereby putting the public value of technology and social responsibility into practice.


Kim Naeon, a second-year student at Iseo High School, is an emerging talent in the field of robotics, having won a gold medal in the individual competition at the International Robot Olympiad (IRO), as well as the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award and the Ulsan Metropolitan City Mayor's Award.


She has demonstrated the practicality and social value of technology by designing and producing disaster rescue robots and eco-friendly 3D-printed products. She achieved the highest score in mission performance at an international competition with participants from 23 countries, earning global recognition for her real-world problem-solving skills. As the leader of the autonomous robotics club, she is also fostering a culture of collaboration and mentoring younger students, with the aim of contributing to society through the development of medical rescue robots.

Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "I sincerely congratulate the students of Gyeongbuk for achieving the meaningful accomplishment of being awarded the Korea Talent Award, which will lead the future of our society," adding, "The Gyeongbuk Office of Education will continue to provide systematic support so that students can fully develop their talents and potential in various fields."
