Powell’s Job Approval at 44%
Trump at 36%
Jerome Powell, Chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed), has received the highest approval rating among key figures in the U.S. executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
According to The Hill, a congressional news outlet, a Gallup poll conducted from December 1 to 15 among 1,016 American adults found that 44% approve of Chair Powell’s job performance. This is the highest score among the 13 officials surveyed.
Powell received support from 46% of Democrats, 34% of Republicans, and 49% of independents, indicating positive responses regardless of political affiliation.
Powell is credited with maintaining the Fed’s independence in the face of pressure from President Donald Trump to cut interest rates. With his term set to expire in May next year, Powell has repeatedly faced criticism from President Trump for not lowering rates more aggressively. In addition, President Trump has raised concerns over excessive Fed renovation expenses and has attempted to dismiss Fed Governor Lisa Cook, who has 13 years left in her term, citing allegations related to mortgage loans. These actions have been seen as attempts to undermine the Fed’s independence.
This approval rating survey included senior officials from the Trump administration, Chief Justice John Roberts, and the leadership of both the Republican and Democratic parties.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio recorded a 41% approval rating, the second highest after Powell.
JD Vance, Vice President and a potential Republican presidential candidate, received an approval rating of 39%, while President Trump’s job approval stood at 36%.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer had the lowest approval rating among those surveyed, at 28%.
