14,180 Plants Newly Planted

Namwon City in North Jeolla Province has completed the second phase of the urban forest project, a resting space for citizens and students, at Jeonbuk National University Namwon Glocal Campus this month.

According to the city on December 24, this project follows the first phase of the urban forest, which was completed in May during the spring, and the second phase has been underway since October. The third phase is scheduled for next spring.

The urban forest is designed as a comfortable space for students to relax, equipped with pergolas and benches, providing a place to sit and enjoy nature while strolling around the campus.

While the first phase of the urban forest focused on landscaping around the campus entrance, the second phase created walking trails and rest areas, as well as forested areas around major buildings.

In this newly established urban forest, 162 trees (16 species including Emerald Green), 2,410 shrubs (4 species including azalea), and 14,180 herbaceous plants (12 species including Green Light) were planted.

Evergreen trees such as pine were used to create a green campus throughout all four seasons, and deciduous trees that change with the seasons were added to enhance the color palette. Paved walkways have been installed for students, allowing them to enjoy nature in a well-organized environment.

Additionally, a gabion retaining wall was installed to stabilize the slope and further emphasize the eco-friendly atmosphere.

A city official stated, "This urban forest is intended to go beyond being a simple natural space, serving as a place for students to find mental relaxation and recharge. We will continue our efforts to enrich the campus's natural environment."
