The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on December 24 that, starting January next year, the national technical qualification exam for Management Information Visualization Skills (BI Specialist) will be fully converted from the current periodic testing system to an on-demand testing system.
This introduction of the on-demand testing system is the result of comprehensive consideration of several factors: the spread of data-driven industrial structures, the increasing use of AI-based decision-making tools, the growing demand for BI (Business Intelligence) among companies, the accelerated adoption of visualization platforms, and the need to enhance convenience for test-takers.
The Management Information Visualization Skills qualification is a national technical certification that verifies practical abilities to effectively visualize and communicate data in the era of AI and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This qualification is preferred by major domestic and international companies such as Coca-Cola, Samsung, SK, and Hyundai Motor, as well as public institutions and financial organizations, and its usefulness in the job market is continuously expanding.
However, the existing Management Information Visualization Skills exam has been conducted as a periodic test based on OMR, which limited the selection of exam dates and times. The written test was held only once per exam day, and the practical test was conducted sequentially by program (Power BI, Tableau), restricting the number of opportunities for candidates.
Accordingly, from 2026, the exam administration method will undergo a complete overhaul. The written test will be converted to an on-demand CBT (computer-based test) format, with multiple time slots available per exam day, and will be conducted in the same environment as other existing CBT written exams.
The number of annual practical tests will also be increased, with up to three sessions per exam day. In particular, by holding the Power BI and Tableau practical tests simultaneously, accessibility for test-takers is expected to improve significantly.
The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry expects that this transition to on-demand testing will increase flexibility in exam administration and contribute to nurturing talent with practical skills based on data and AI.
Meanwhile, in 2026, the Management Information Visualization Skills exam will be held four times each for the written and practical tests. Applications for the first written test, scheduled for January 10, can be submitted via the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Qualification Assessment Division website or the Korchampass mobile application.
