Hwang Hana (age 37), the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, who was under investigation for drug-related charges and had fled overseas, has been arrested by the police.
The Gwacheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that Hwang had been arrested and is being questioned on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Hwang is suspected of administering methamphetamine to two acquaintances in Gangnam, Seoul, in 2023. The police stated that further investigation is needed to clarify the details of the alleged crime.
Hwang fled to Southeast Asia while under police investigation and is reported to have illegally entered Cambodia, where she had been staying.
While Hwang was the subject of an Interpol Blue Notice (request for location), her side recently expressed willingness to appear before the police, prompting the police to initiate the arrest procedure.
The police traveled to Cambodia, coordinated with the local consul, took Hwang into custody, and executed the arrest warrant on board a national carrier.
Hwang entered Korea at 7:50 a.m. on this day and is currently being questioned at Gwacheon Police Station.
Hwang has attracted public attention on social media as the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products and as the former partner of singer and actor Park Yuchun.
She was indicted for administering methamphetamine three times at her home in Seoul and elsewhere between May and September 2015, and in 2019, she received a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years. The following year, she was again indicted for drug use during her probation period and was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison.
Hwang was also booked last year on suspicion of drug use in 2023 during the investigation into a drug case involving the late actor Lee Sun-kyun.
