Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) will hold the "2026 Byeong-O Year New Year's Celebration Event" at 7:00 a.m. on January 1, 2026, at the inline plaza of Guri Hangang Citizen's Park. This event has been organized so that citizens can welcome the first sunrise of the new year together, sharing hope and unity.
The celebration will begin with New Year's greetings and a drum-beating ceremony, followed by a dynamic Salpan drum performance. Afterwards, there will be a concert featuring soprano Jung Chanhee, bass-baritone Kim Hyeonggeol, and the Guri City Choir. The powerful sound of drums combined with elegant classical melodies is expected to energize the first morning of the new year.
In addition, a variety of hands-on activities will be available for citizens to participate in. These include a traditional pot-breaking event to welcome the new year, a photo zone themed around the Year of the Red Horse, and a drum-beating experience. Through these diverse activities, participants are expected to create joyful memories with family and neighbors.
The Guri City Resource Circulation Interpreter Association will also provide warm tea for citizens, offering a comforting experience to those visiting the park in the early morning hours.
Baek Kyunghyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "I hope this event, which opens the Byeong-O Year together with our citizens, will be a meaningful occasion that inspires courage for new beginnings and challenges," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure on-site control and guidance so that citizens can participate safely and comfortably."
