On December 24, the police launched an additional investigation into Hak Ja Han, President of the Unification Church, and Yoon Youngho, former Secretary-General of the World Headquarters, regarding allegations of lobbying political circles by the Unification Church.
The Special Investigation Task Force of the National Police Agency began a second round of questioning at 9:30 a.m. that day at the Seoul Detention Center, targeting President Han and former Secretary-General Yoon, who are currently in custody.
They are accused of delivering cash and luxury watches worth tens of millions of won to former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Jeon Jae-soo, former Democratic Party lawmaker Lim Jongseong, and former United Future Party lawmaker Kim Gyuhwan between 2018 and 2020.
On this day, the police also booked Song Gwangseok as a suspect and questioned him at the Seodaemun-gu police office. Song is suspected of serving as a 'channel' for the Unification Church to approach political figures.
Song previously held key positions in the church, including President of the Unification Church Korea Association. From 2018 to 2020, he served as President of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), which was established by the Unification Church.
