Three-Stage Roadmap Including the AI ADVANCED Program
Jeonnam National University, which was the first university in the country to pursue a full-scale AI campus transformation, is launching a systematic, step-by-step training program to strengthen faculty members' AI utilization capabilities.
According to Jeonnam National University on December 24, the university’s Center for Educational Innovation is introducing the "AI ADVANCED Program" to proactively respond to the era of AI transformation and enhance faculty members' ability to utilize AI.
This training will be held from January 19 to 29 next year, running five hours per day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a total of 40 hours. It will focus on hands-on, customized training tailored to the characteristics and needs of each academic discipline.
As part of its Glocal University initiative, Jeonnam National University has developed the step-by-step and level-based faculty AI competency enhancement program, "HAI-STEP (Human-centered AI Smart Teaching Enhancement Program)," to expand AX (AI Transformation) convergence education across all academic fields and systematically train faculty members who will be responsible for AI education.
HAI-STEP consists of three stages. The first stage, the AI BASIC Program, is an ongoing training course designed to strengthen foundational AI and AX competencies. It is currently being offered to university executives, department heads, and team leaders until December 29.
The newly launched AI ADVANCED Program is the second stage. Developed in collaboration with KT, this program provides intensive, in-depth training reflecting the unique AI utilization characteristics of each academic field, including humanities and social sciences, natural sciences and engineering, and health and medical sciences. A total of 60 full-time faculty members will participate, with 30 from the humanities and social sciences and 30 from the natural sciences and engineering.
The main curriculum includes: ▲Understanding generative AI ▲Generating class texts, assessment items, and visual materials ▲Data statistical analysis ▲Experimental and system statistical analysis ▲Establishing AI-based instructional design models ▲Understanding STEM text structures ▲Completing data-driven figures, and more. The program is designed as a step-by-step, hands-on training that can be immediately applied in educational and research settings.
Participating faculty will systematically experience the entire process of AI utilization, from understanding generative AI to data exploration, analysis, and visualization, thereby intensively strengthening both foundational and practical AI skills essential for teaching and research.
The third stage, the AI MASTER Program, is a long-term training course designed to further deepen faculty members' AI research and educational capabilities. It runs for about 10 months, allowing participants to focus on enhancing their AI research and teaching skills without teaching obligations. Research funding will be provided for this stage, which is scheduled to begin in May next year. Faculty members who complete the AI ADVANCED Program will be given priority for selection into the AI MASTER Program.
Jung Eun-kyung, Head of the Center for Educational Innovation, stated, "This AI ADVANCED Program will elevate faculty members' AI utilization capabilities, bringing about substantial change and innovation in both teaching and research. We expect Jeonnam National University's faculty AI competency enhancement model to become the leading standard among regional national universities."
Meanwhile, Jeonnam National University plans to add an AI ADVANCED Program for the health and medical sciences in March 2026 and to regularly offer the humanities and social sciences and natural sciences and engineering programs during school breaks.
