LG AI Graduate School Receives Korea's First In-House Graduate School Doctoral Program Accreditation

Doctoral Program Accredited Following Master's Approval
"AI Talent Is Now National Competitiveness"

LG AI Graduate School, the first in-house graduate school in Korea officially accredited by the Ministry of Education, received approval for its master's program in August this year and has recently secured accreditation for its doctoral program as well. The company plans to accelerate the development of 'national talent' by designing top-tier faculty and curricula aimed at nurturing core experts in generative AI.

On the 24th, LG Corporation announced that, following the accreditation of the doctoral program at LG AI Graduate School, it will hold an opening ceremony for both the master's and doctoral programs in March next year. The annual admission quota is set at 25 students for the master's program and 5 students for the doctoral program.

The master's program at LG AI Graduate School is operated as an intensive one-year, three-semester course focused on cultivating practical, problem-solving talent. The doctoral program aims to produce research leaders capable of redefining complex problems in the industrial field and developing original methodologies to solve them. It is structured as a dispatch program lasting more than three years, and graduation requirements include the mandatory publication of at least one SCI(E)-level paper or a presentation at a world-class academic conference, with a strong emphasis on producing talent who can contribute to both industry and academia.

LG AI Graduate School plans to expand the scope and expertise of its education and research. In collaboration with leading faculty from Seoul National University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), the school is also designing joint educational programs to nurture core talent in generative AI. In particular, LG is jointly promoting the 'LG AI STAR Talent Development Project for Leading Large-Scale Generative Model Technology in the Physical AI Field' with these universities, aiming to break down barriers between academia and industry and foster talent who will drive practical technological innovation.

A representative from LG AI Research Institute stated, "The approval of the doctoral program is significant not only as the launch of an official degree program but also as the starting point for nurturing research leaders who will shape the future of Korea's AI industry," adding, "We will do our utmost to break down the barriers between academia and industry and foster talent who will lead real technological innovation."

Meanwhile, LG AI Research Institute also plans to expand its 'open recruitment internship system' to provide domestic graduate students with opportunities to develop world-class AI foundation models. The company also operates the 'LG AI Academy,' offering tailored AI education to LG employees at various levels. In addition, LG runs the 'LG Discovery Lab,' an experiential AI education center for teenagers in Seoul and Busan, to actively identify and nurture AI talent from an early stage.
