This interim briefing session was organized to review the progress made over approximately five months since the project kick-off meeting in July. The session focused on key topics that will shape the basic outline of the project, including the results of the site selection review and the determination of an appropriate scale for the dome stadium. The meeting was attended by Kim Kyoungil, Mayor of Paju, National Assemblyman Park Jung, as well as representatives from Paju Urban Tourism Corporation and the Paju Sports Council.
Paju City is a core growth city in the Seoul metropolitan area, equipped with an extensive transportation network, including the GTX-A line and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, as well as the Seoul-Munsan Expressway and the Second Capital Region Ring Expressway. As the city has expanded and its population has grown, the need for large-scale sports and cultural infrastructure has been continuously raised. Reflecting these local conditions and citizen demands, the city is considering the construction of the dome stadium and integrated sports and cultural facilities as part of its mid- to long-term strategic projects.
Currently, Paju City is conducting a feasibility study and establishing a basic plan to comprehensively review the necessity, economic feasibility, site suitability, and business viability of the dome stadium project. This interim briefing session is part of the process to seek a more realistic and feasible direction for the project based on the analysis conducted so far. Notably, earlier this month, the city signed a business agreement to strengthen the expertise and completeness of the review process through technical consultation and information exchange related to the dome stadium project.
Based on the feedback presented at this interim briefing session, Paju City plans to further supplement and refine its analysis, and will establish a basic plan for the construction of the dome stadium through a final briefing session in the future.
