Songpa District in Seoul (District Mayor: Seo Gangseok) has completed the nighttime landscape project for Pungnap-dong Toseong, which has been underway for over two years, transforming it into a spectacular new nightscape attraction this month.

Pungnap-dong has suffered from urban decay and damage to residents' property rights due to various regulations, including building restrictions imposed by cultural heritage preservation policies. To address these local issues, the district is carrying out projects to improve cultural, residential, and daily life infrastructure.

The nighttime landscape project, launched in 2023, aimed to turn Toseong, a popular relaxation spot for residents, into a nightscape destination and enhance nighttime safety. In the first phase, LED floodlights were installed along the eastern wall, the longest 1-kilometer section of Toseong. Bollard lights engraved with Baekje roof tile patterns and solar-powered lights were also placed throughout the area.

In the second phase, completed this year, additional attractions were added mainly to the southern, western, and northern walls. Projection mapping on the southern wall displays patterns symbolizing Hanseong Baekje and the words "Hanseong Baekje Pungnap-dong." Starting next month, an animation featuring the district mascots "Haha" and "Hoho" will also be screened.

On the western and northern walls, LED floodlights were installed at 6-meter intervals to create a unified nighttime view of Toseong. Uplighting fixtures illuminate the trees along the walking paths, and reed-shaped lights add to the ambiance. To prevent light pollution, multi-pole floodlights were used in areas where the walls are low, ensuring that light does not spill into nearby residential areas.

The lights are turned on from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. during the summer season (March to October) and from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. during the winter season (November to February).

Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "This nighttime landscape project has greatly enhanced the cultural heritage value of Songpa. I hope Pungnap Toseong will be reborn as a beloved historical and cultural attraction for tourists, bringing new vitality to the area."
