Eagle feeding, ecological observation, Eagle Wing Costume Experience, and more

The most perfect class where nature and humans coexist-the 2026 Ulsan Eagle School-is set to open its doors.

Ulsan City is now recruiting participants for the experiential ecological education program, "2026 Ulsan Eagle School," which centers on the eagle, a Natural Monument and a Class II endangered wild animal that visits Ulsan during the winter.

The Ulsan Eagle School will operate every Wednesday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during the winter vacation period, from January 3 to February 28 next year, in the Samho Island area of Nam-gu.

Each session is limited to 100 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance registration is required through the official website, "ulsaneagle.com."

This year, four eagles first arrived in Ulsan on November 19, and since then, their numbers have steadily increased. By early December, about 70 eagles had been observed, and by mid-December, the number exceeded 100.

Most of the eagles visiting Ulsan are young, aged between one and three years old. When food is scarce, there have been repeated cases where the birds ingest foreign objects such as rubber gloves, Styrofoam, or ropes, leading to exhaustion or even death.

In response, Ulsan City, together with the Green Energy Forum, has been continuing feeding activities to support the safe wintering of these young eagles.

The "Eagle Restaurant," which provides food for the eagles, has been operating since November 15 at the Taehwagang River sandbar in Daun-dong, Jung-gu.

The Green Energy Forum supplies food every Wednesday and Saturday, and the restaurant will remain open until early March, when the eagles return to Mongolia.

The food provided includes pork, offal, and beef trimmings, mainly donated by local meat suppliers. Since early December, Ulsan City has also been supplying over 200 kg of beef trimmings per session from a total of 3 tons provided this month.

The Eagle School program is structured as an ecological experience and observation activity, linked with the feeding operations of the Eagle Restaurant.

Participants will learn about the eagles' migratory routes, their role in the ecosystem, and their gentle nature through explanations from guides. They will also directly observe the eagles gliding without flapping their wings on jet streams, their behavior at feeding sites, and their interactions with other birds.

After the observation, there will be additional programs such as the Eagle Wing Costume Experience and a photo zone.

The event is open to everyone, but the number of participants per session is limited to minimize the impact on the eagles and their habitat. The event will be canceled in case of rain. For inquiries, please contact the Green Energy Citizen Participation Promotion Forum.

An official from the city stated, "We hope to boost birdwatching tourism through ecological experiences with eagles and to establish Ulsan as a city recognized as safe for wild birds, with the interest and cooperation of our citizens."

Ulsan City plans to produce a promotional video featuring the event and participant impressions, which will be released through the city's official YouTube channel, "Whale TV."
