Two men have been apprehended by police for vandalizing the grave of the late Yoon Kijung, honorary professor at Yonsei University and father of former President Yoon Sukyeol.

On December 23, the Yangpyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had arrested two men, including a man in his 70s identified as A, at the scene on charges of trespassing and property damage.

A and the other suspect are accused of damaging Professor Yoon’s grave around 12:45 p.m. that day at a public cemetery in Yangpyeong-eup, Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, by driving several metal spikes about 30 centimeters long and as thick as a clothes hanger into the grave.

According to police, the suspects were apprehended at the scene after a witness reported that someone was vandalizing the grave.

During police questioning, A and the other suspect reportedly claimed to be supporters of former President Yoon Sukyeol and stated that they acted "to ward off misfortune."

The police plan to further investigate the motive and specific details of the incident.
