The 'Korea Talent Award' is presented annually by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation. It recognizes 100 outstanding young people in Korea aged 15 to 34 who demonstrate creativity, expertise, and a capacity to contribute to the community. Among these, 40 high school students and youths are selected nationwide in the high school/youth category.
This year, the three awardees from Daegu were highly praised for their exceptional academic achievements in their respective majors and areas of interest, as well as for their contributions to community development through research activities and social engagement.
Kim Eunsung, a third-year student at Daegu Science High School, is recognized as an outstanding talent in the field of information science. He proved his world-class abilities by winning a gold medal at the 36th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) and a silver medal at the 36th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO). In addition, he has achieved excellent results in the Korean Mathematical Olympiad and various other competitions both inside and outside of school, earning him a reputation as a student with well-balanced academic abilities across the basic sciences.

As president of the school's biology research club, he participated in activities such as observing migratory birds in the Geumho River basin, analyzing vegetation, compiling and submitting soil sample analysis results, and proposing eco-friendly policies to help preserve the local environment. He also took the lead in environmental cleanup efforts, including river trash collection, demonstrating active social engagement.

This achievement earned him awards at numerous domestic and international science competitions, including the 2024 European Union Contest for Young Scientists. Over the past three years, he also founded and managed a volunteer club at a nursing home, providing longevity photo services for local seniors, and has been recognized for his ongoing commitment to community service.
