Sharing Current Issues and Development Strategies for the Ginseng Industry
The Geumsan Ginseng and Herbal Medicine Industry Promotion Agency held the 3rd Ginseng Industry Promotion Committee meeting on December 22 at the merchants' meeting room on the 2nd floor of the Geumsan Fresh Ginseng Center. The committee reviewed the major achievements for 2025 and discussed the direction for the ginseng industry in 2026.
The meeting was attended by about 20 participants, including Committee Chairman Park Beomin, Governor of Geumsan County, committee members, and four advisory members. Notably, representatives from the production, distribution, research, and administrative sectors participated, sharing current issues and development strategies for the ginseng industry.
The main achievements reported this year included: ▲ Establishment of a safe ginseng distribution foundation ▲ Improvement of the distribution structure and enhancement of transaction reliability ▲ Advancement of ginseng trading practices ▲ Exploration of overseas markets and promotion of consumption ▲ Research and commercialization of functional ingredients ▲ Establishment of a fresh ginseng distribution information system.
In particular, the construction of a QR-based traceability management system, preparations for mandatory safe ginseng distribution, implementation of pilot projects to improve distribution structure, nurturing of export companies and overseas promotional events, as well as the development and expansion of ginseng food products, were evaluated as key achievements for restoring trust in Geumsan ginseng distribution and strengthening industry competitiveness.
Furthermore, the committee set its main focus for next year on the stable establishment of the “first year of safe ginseng distribution,” with plans to build a fair and transparent transaction and settlement system and to expand strategic sales channels to recover both domestic consumption and exports. The committee gathered members’ opinions on these directions.
The Ginseng Industry Promotion Committee plans to continue its role as a core consultative body for setting mid- to long-term policy directions for the ginseng industry, improving the distribution structure, and revitalizing the market.
Park Beomin, Governor of Geumsan County, stated, "To drive sustainable growth in the Geumsan ginseng industry, we will collaborate with relevant ministries and institutions to establish a systematic research foundation and a concrete roadmap. We will gradually implement the establishment of safe ginseng distribution, the advancement of functionality-focused products, and the strengthening of export competitiveness to enhance the trust and value of Geumsan ginseng."
An official from the Geumsan Ginseng and Herbal Medicine Industry Promotion Agency said, "This committee meeting was an opportunity to specify the policy direction for 2026 based on the achievements of 2025. We will continue our efforts to establish a safe and transparent distribution system and to strengthen the competitiveness of the ginseng industry."
