Yoon Byungtae, Mayor of Naju City in South Jeolla Province, ranked first in the "K-Brand Index" for local government heads in the Jeolla region, as evaluated by the big data assessment agency Asia Brand Research Institute. This achievement is drawing significant attention ahead of next year's local elections.
According to the Asia Brand Research Institute on December 23, the evaluation was based on an analysis of 2,442,063 pieces of big data accumulated online over the month of November. The assessment comprehensively reflected trends, media exposure, social network reactions, positive and negative perceptions, community diffusion, and an AI index, while notably excluding the short-term surge effects caused by specific issues.
The analysis found that Mayor Yoon received the highest evaluation among local government heads in the Jeolla region. He was followed by Noh Gwan-gyu, Mayor of Suncheon; Kim San, Governor of Muan County; Lee Hak-soo, Mayor of Jeongeup; and Woo Beom-gi, Mayor of Jeonju.
Within this extensive comparative index covering both South and North Jeolla Provinces, Mayor Yoon's policy messages and city administration have been stably reflected in online public opinion. In particular, repeated exposure of messages related to energy and advanced industry policies centered on Naju Innovation City-such as attracting the artificial sun research facility-and efforts to revitalize the local economy are cited as the main reasons for his rise in the rankings, as they have generated positive public sentiment.
With the local elections approaching next year, analysts say that this result is significant not only as a competition of name recognition, but also as recognition of "sustainable policy leadership."
Han Jeonggeun, CEO of the Asia Brand Research Institute, stated, "This index clearly showed that responses to everyday issues and messages about the local economy are quickly reflected in online public opinion. Mayor Yoon Byungtae's first-place ranking can be seen as the result of policy continuity and the formation of public consensus, rather than short-term issues or event-driven administration."
