The opening ceremony was a great success, attended by about 100 people, including Choi Byung-gap, Deputy Mayor of Paju City, city and provincial council members, and heads of local community organizations. The event began with awards for contributors to the opening, followed by congratulatory speeches from the Deputy Mayor and the Chairperson of the Paju City Council. The ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting to mark the official opening of the center and a tour of the facility.
Paju Silver Sarangchae is the only municipal long-term care institution in Paju City. Located in Beobwon-eup (832 Suri-hollo), it had provided services such as day and night care, senior employment, and 365 Senior Care Service for over 30 years. However, as the facility aged and limitations in senior care emerged, a reconstruction project was launched in 2023. After more than two years of construction, the center has finally reopened. During the construction period, services continued at a temporary facility in Munsan-eup.
The newly reopened Paju Silver Sarangchae will operate as a specialized day and night care center for dementia patients, accommodating up to 40 residents. This expansion allows dementia-focused services, previously available only in southern Paju, to be provided in the northern region as well. Compared to the previous facility, which could accommodate only 18 people, the new center more than doubles its capacity, enabling more citizens to benefit from care services.
Choi Byung-gap, Deputy Mayor of Paju City, stated, "Paju Silver Sarangchae will set the standard for care services in Paju City and enhance the overall quality of service."
Meanwhile, as the senior population in Paju has been rapidly increasing, the city is focusing its resources on expanding senior welfare facilities and improving service quality and accessibility. This year, the city opened the Unjeong Danurim Senior Welfare Center, and the Munsan Senior Welfare Center is scheduled to open in the second half of 2026. In addition, starting in 2027, Paju City plans to begin detailed design and construction preparations for its second municipal long-term care institution, tentatively named "Paju Municipal Nursing Home."
