Focusing on Space and Power: A Standout Large SUV
Cargo Space Fits Up to 38 Suitcases for Travel
Up to 2.2 Tons Towing Capacity and Advanced Safety Features
Volkswagen announced on the 23rd that its large sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Atlas, is attracting attention in the domestic SUV market with its segment-leading body size and powerful driving performance, all while being priced in the 60 million won range.
The Atlas is the largest model built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB modular platform, boasting the longest overall length among large SUVs currently sold in Korea at 5,095 mm. It also features a width of 1,990 mm and a height of 1,780 mm. With its large body, the Atlas is available in both 6-seater and 7-seater models, and the third row offers a spacious two-seat configuration.
In addition, the 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine delivers stress-free driving even when fully loaded with family and luggage, whether on uphill roads or highways. It provides a maximum output of 273 PS and a peak torque of 37.7 kg·m, offering robust power. The advanced electronically controlled 4MOTION all-wheel drive system comes standard, ensuring stable power delivery across various road conditions. It can tow up to 2.2 tons, allowing for the towing of trailers and caravans without any additional structural modifications.
With a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.33, the Atlas boasts a certified combined fuel efficiency of 8.5 km/l in Korea. Despite its segment-leading body size, its compact engine displacement provides economic advantages such as reduced automobile taxes.
The trunk offers a class-leading basic capacity of 583 liters, which expands to 1,572 liters with the third row folded and up to 2,735 liters with the second row folded. The second and third row seats can be partially or fully folded to accommodate various cargo needs. The “flat folding” feature provides a completely flat floor when all seats are folded, maximizing space utilization.
The Atlas is equipped with excellent crash safety features and Volkswagen’s advanced driver assistance technologies. The state-of-the-art IQ.DRIVE system integrates features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, which supports stop-and-go driving up to 200 km/h, and Travel Assist, which helps reduce driver fatigue by assisting with acceleration, braking, and steering during long-distance journeys.
The price is in the mid-to-high 60 million won range, making it competitive compared to imported and domestic SUVs in the same class. The R-Line 7-seater is priced at 67,701,000 won, while the R-Line 6-seater is 68,486,000 won.
