Focusing on Space and Power: A Standout Large SUV
Cargo Space Fits Up to 38 Suitcases for Travel
Up to 2.2 Tons Towing Capacity and Advanced Safety Features
Volkswagen announced on the 23rd that its large SUV, the Atlas, is attracting attention in the domestic SUV market with its class-leading body size and powerful driving performance, all at a price point in the 60 million won range.
The Atlas is the largest model built on the Volkswagen Group's MQB modular platform, and boasts the longest overall length among large SUVs currently sold in Korea at 5,095 mm. It also features a width of 1,990 mm and a height of 1,780 mm. Thanks to its large body, the Atlas is available in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations, with the third row offering a spacious 2-seater arrangement.
Additionally, the 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine delivers a stress-free driving experience even when carrying a full load of family and luggage, whether on uphill roads or highways. It produces a maximum output of 273 horsepower (PS) and a peak torque of 37.7 kg·m, offering robust performance. The advanced electronically controlled 4Motion all-wheel-drive system comes standard, ensuring stable traction on various road surfaces. The Atlas can tow up to 2.2 tons, allowing it to pull trailers or caravans without requiring any structural modifications.
With a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.33, the Atlas boasts a certified combined fuel efficiency of 8.5 km/l in Korea. Despite its class-leading body size, its compact engine displacement provides economic advantages such as reduced automobile taxes.
The trunk capacity is also among the largest in its class, offering 583 liters as standard, 1,572 liters with the third row folded, and up to 2,735 liters with the second row folded. The second and third row seats can be partially or fully folded to accommodate various cargo needs. The Atlas supports "flat folding," which creates a completely flat floor space when all seats are folded, delivering exceptional versatility.
The Atlas is equipped with excellent crash safety features and Volkswagen’s advanced driver assistance technologies. The state-of-the-art driver assistance system "IQ.Drive" integrates features such as "Adaptive Cruise Control," which supports stop-and-go driving at speeds up to 200 km/h, and "Travel Assist," which helps reduce driver fatigue during long-distance trips by assisting with acceleration, braking, and steering.
Pricing is in the mid-to-high 60 million won range, making it competitive compared to other imported and domestic SUVs in the same class. The R-Line 7-seater is priced at 67,701,000 won, while the R-Line 6-seater is 68,486,000 won.
