Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on December 23 that it has designated and officially announced the "Small-Scale Housing Maintenance Management Plan (Future Town)" for the area around 587-5 Ilsandong, Ilsanseo-gu (98,481.9 square meters).

The city began the process of establishing the management plan in earnest in March 2024. The draft management plan, which was developed by gathering input from associations and residents, was approved on December 18 after being reviewed by the 2nd Gyeonggi Urban Regeneration Committee in 2025.
This announcement marks the second such case for Goyang City, following last year's "Haengsin-dong Future Town." It is significant in that the systematic management plan framework for the maintenance of aging low-rise residential areas has now been expanded to the Ilsan region.
The target area has an aging building ratio of 84.7% and narrow roads, making urgent maintenance necessary. Through this management plan, the city has laid the foundation to integrate individually promoted street housing maintenance projects and develop them on a block basis.
The main points of the plan include: ▲ Enhancing business feasibility by upgrading from Type 1 General Residential Area to Type 2; ▲ Widening major roads such as Tanjung-ro (up to 20 meters); ▲ Establishing two new children's parks (5,642 square meters). Through these measures, infrastructure in the original downtown area of Ilsan is expected to be improved.
According to the plan, a total of 1,941 new housing units will be supplied across five project-eligible zones. Of these, 256 units will be built as rental housing due to the zoning upgrade, thereby ensuring public interest.
An official from Goyang Special City stated, "Ilsandong Future Town is the result of strong commitment from residents combined with systematic public support," adding, "We will continue to swiftly and orderly renovate aging residential areas in the original downtown to provide citizens with a pleasant living environment."
