Recognition for Safety, Systematic Disaster Prevention, and Project Performance
Yeongcheon City announced on December 23 that it had received the Excellence Award in the "2025 River Project Performance Evaluation" organized by North Gyeongsang Province.
This evaluation is conducted to comprehensively assess the river-related work performance of 22 cities and counties within the province, including the collection of river occupation and usage fees, the implementation of local river projects, and safety management of local river projects.
Yeongcheon City earned high marks for its systematic maintenance and disaster prevention efforts for rivers within the region, including one national river (15.80 km) and 24 local rivers (253.35 km). The city carried out river maintenance projects, removed sediment and obstacles to water flow, and conducted detailed safety inspections of floodgates and levees.
In particular, the city was highly commended for its exemplary case of improving and maintaining an undeveloped section of the Gohyeoncheon (Hwanam District) river, which had repeatedly experienced flooding of farmland and houses during heavy rainfall. The city completed 6.6 km of river maintenance, repaired four bridges, and improved four weirs and drop structures, thereby ensuring flood safety at the planned flood frequency. This achievement earned the city additional points in the evaluation.
A city official stated, "This award is the result of our systematic efforts in implementing river projects," adding, "We will continue to do our best to maintain a safe river environment that protects the lives and property of our citizens through ongoing management."
