Classified as 14 Appropriate, 29 Conditionally Appropriate, and 4 Inappropriate Cases
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on December 23 that it held a Public Frequency Policy Council and finalized the 2026 public frequency supply and demand plan.
In accordance with the Radio Waves Act, the Ministry annually reviews the frequency usage plans for the following year and beyond, submitted by central administrative agencies and public institutions, to ensure the efficient management and stable supply of public frequencies. Based on this review, the Ministry establishes and implements a supply and demand plan. This year, a total of 21 organizations, including the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, submitted 47 new frequency usage plans.
As a result of the evaluation, 14 cases were classified as appropriate, 29 as conditionally appropriate, and 4 as inappropriate. Accordingly, a total bandwidth of 10.6 GHz of public frequencies will be supplied. Projects classified as conditionally appropriate will be supplied on the premise of efficient frequency use, such as joint use between institutions or adjustment of required amounts. Projects deemed inappropriate generally lacked defined equipment output, necessary bandwidth, or had unclear demand.
By sector, the defense and security sector (20 cases) will be allocated a concentrated supply of 8.5 GHz of frequencies, mainly for drone detection and the advancement of unmanned systems. In the public safety sector (25 cases), which includes maritime surveillance, bird detection radar, railway wireless control, and disaster prevention such as wildfires, an additional 2.1 GHz will be allocated. In addition, 25.38 MHz of frequencies will be supplied for new public services (2 cases), such as satellites and urban air mobility (UAM).
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to finalize the frequency supply after conducting a final review of interference and intermodulation effects, in line with the project schedules and the timing of wireless station establishment, for usage plans that received an appropriate evaluation.
