Population, Settlement, Industry, and Higher Education
Policy solutions from South Chungcheong Province addressing the complex crises of regional extinction, the climate crisis, and industrial transition have come together in one place.
The Chungnam Research Institute has released its research achievements accumulated over the past year and has officially begun designing policies linked to the provincial government’s strategies for 2026.
On December 23, the Chungnam Research Institute held its '2025 Research Achievement Presentation' at its main office in Gongju, unveiling 41 research projects on key provincial issues such as regional extinction, carbon neutrality and the climate crisis, population and settlement, higher education, and science and technology.
This presentation was organized to comprehensively share this year’s research results and to strengthen the policy platform by connecting the research agenda and mid- to long-term research directions for 2026 with the province’s policies.
The event was divided into a morning Session A and afternoon Sessions B and C, with a total of 13 subcommittees presenting research outcomes and holding expert discussions in fields such as regional industry, rural areas, culture and tourism, environment, population, regional development, higher education, and science and technology.
The main topics discussed included: ▲ strategies for settlement conditions, jobs, and living SOC to respond to regional extinction and changes in population structure; ▲ energy and environmental policies for carbon neutrality and climate crisis response; ▲ advancement of regional industries and building an innovation ecosystem; ▲ balanced development of cultural tourism, rural, and urban spaces; ▲ and strategies for fostering higher education, science and technology, and new industries tailored to South Chungcheong Province.
Director Jeon Heekyung stated, "This presentation marks the starting point for sharing the Chungnam Research Institute’s accumulated research achievements with the residents and jointly designing the provincial government’s tasks and future strategies for 2026." She added, "We will continue to propose practical policy alternatives to address the triple challenges of regional extinction, the climate crisis, and industrial transition."
She went on to say, "We will provide full support to ensure that the 41 research projects presented can be effectively utilized in the policy field of the province and its cities and counties."
