Supplementing the Limitations of Voice Narration
Woori Bank announced that it has introduced an "electronic braille generation solution" for the first time among the four major commercial banks, and has applied electronic braille services to key menus in its internet banking platform to enhance financial information accessibility for customers with visual impairments.
The "electronic braille generation solution" is a service that converts financial information displayed on the internet banking screen into braille files, enabling accurate delivery of even complex financial data such as tables and figures. By supplementing the existing voice-based "screen reader" method, this solution improves accessibility to financial information and creates an environment where customers with visual impairments can independently check their financial data.
Woori Bank has prioritized the service for core menus that are frequently used by visually impaired customers and where braille is most utilized. The electronic braille service is available not only for essential financial transaction screens such as account inquiry, transaction history inquiry, and transfer result inquiry, but also for inquiry screens that include key personal financial information such as loan interest payment statements, retirement pension asset balance status, trust asset holdings, and utility bill payment history.
With the introduction of this service, customers can use the "screen reader" that provides voice guidance for screen information, click the "braille button" within the internet banking screen to generate a braille file, and then directly check their financial information using braille information terminals and other devices.
In line with the "Strategy and Measures to Enhance Financial Accessibility for People with Disabilities" announced by financial authorities in April, Woori Bank plans to expand the scope of electronic braille application beyond the currently supported key menus to include detailed screens and pop-up windows starting in January next year.
A Woori Bank representative stated, "The introduction of the electronic braille solution has improved the convenience of financial transactions for customers with visual impairments," and added, "We will continue to expand inclusive finance so that financially vulnerable groups can access financial services without discrimination even in digital environments."
