Gyeonggi Education Office Sets Next Year's Living Wage at 12,860 Won

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has set next year's "living wage" at 12,860 won. This marks the third consecutive year that the office has established the highest living wage among provincial education offices nationwide. It is also the highest among all public institutions in the province, including the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and the 31 city and county governments.

The living wage is determined by taking into account the minimum wage and other factors to ensure that workers can support their families and maintain a basic standard of living.

The policy applies to employees of affiliated institutions within the province who are not covered by the wage agreements signed between the Ministry of Education, provincial and metropolitan education offices, and the National School Irregular Workers' Union. Specifically, this includes workers whose contract period is less than one month or whose standard weekly working hours are less than 15 hours.

Since 2014, when it became the first metropolitan local government to implement the "Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Living Wage Ordinance," the office has determined the living wage amount each year based on the advice of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Living Wage Committee.

The office previously confirmed that next year's living wage would be set at 12,860 won, an increase of 360 won (2.9%) from this year's 12,500 won.

Lee Jaegu, Director of Labor-Management Cooperation at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, stated, "Despite challenging circumstances both inside and outside the organization, we have set the 2026 living wage at the highest level among education offices nationwide," adding, "We hope that the living wage will help stabilize the lives of the Gyeonggi education community and improve their quality of life."
