According to Seo-gu District on December 23, this competition was organized to promote proper waste separation and the spread of a culture of reducing food waste. It was held over approximately eight months from March, with participation from 36 apartment complexes in the district.
Seo-gu District continuously evaluated the following criteria: performance in reducing food waste, the amount of used batteries and fluorescent lamps collected, the actual status of waste separation, and resident participation in resource circulation practices. Based on these assessments, ten apartment complexes with outstanding achievements in resource circulation were selected.
Sangmu Utap Ubless and Hwajeong Sindonga Apartments were awarded the grand prize. The top excellence award went to Kumho Namyang Park, Yeomju Mansion, Sangmu Daeju 1st Complex, and Majae Maeul Jueun Apartments. The excellence award was given to Sungwoo Happy House, Nongseong Dongsan, Kumho Siyeong 1st Complex, and Sangmu 1st Umi Apartments.
Seo-gu District plans to encourage these achievements and promote the spread of best practices in the community by awarding the selected outstanding apartment complexes with the district mayor’s award and a total of 20 million won in prize money.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu District, stated, "Resource circulation is a promise to future generations," and added, "We will continue to pursue resident participation policies so that reducing food waste and proper waste separation become a natural part of daily life."
