The two companies have agreed to build a strategic partnership for the development and commercialization of cylindrical NCA (nickel, cobalt, aluminum) battery packs, and will closely cooperate on the development, testing, and production of high-voltage battery packs.
The Samsung SDI cylindrical 46 series (46mm diameter) NCA batteries to be used in development can deliver both long driving range and fast charging speeds thanks to their high energy density. Enhanced safety and durability ensure stable performance in a variety of driving environments.
In particular, by applying high-capacity high-nickel NCA cathode materials and the patented SCN anode material, the battery reduces swelling while increasing energy density and lifespan, and also secures improved safety.
Additionally, the adoption of a tabless structure has enhanced high-output and fast-charging performance. Improvements in thermal diffusion structure and the advancement of manufacturing processes have further ensured safety and quality reliability, making these batteries well-suited for next-generation electric vehicles.
Based on this collaboration, the two companies will also build a long-term partnership, including joint planning of battery products based on Samsung SDI cells, cooperation on product lineups, establishing global market cooperation brand strategies, and operating a system for joint review of new technologies.
Kwak stated, "By proactively responding to the rapidly changing industrial environment and policy shifts, such as diversifying electric vehicle battery materials, and by strengthening our battery pack development capabilities, we have laid the foundation for securing future competitiveness and stable growth in the global market. We will accelerate the development of electrification technologies to establish a foundation for sustainable growth."
