Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Recruiting 200-Member Economic Delegation to China
First Visit in Six Years
Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, and Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, along with other leaders of Korea's four major conglomerates, are expected to visit China early next year as part of an economic delegation.
According to the business community on December 22, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry is currently accepting applications from companies wishing to join a 200-member economic delegation to China, scheduled for early January next year.
The delegation will reportedly be led by Chairman Chey Tae-won in his capacity as head of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In October, Chairman Chey visited China to discuss the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit and ways to expand economic cooperation between the two countries.
This will be the first time in six years that the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry organizes an economic delegation to China, since the visit in December 2019, which coincided with the Korea-China-Japan summit hosted by former President Moon Jae-in. At that time, more than 100 key business leaders, including then KCCI Chairman Park Yong-man, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Yoon Boo-keun, and Hyundai Motor President Kong Young-woon, visited China.
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry plans to close applications on December 23, then form the delegation after a review process. The detailed schedule and list of participants are expected to be influenced by whether the Korea-China summit, currently being arranged for early next year, takes place.
The delegation's itinerary will include the Korea-China Business Forum, the signing of economic cooperation memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and one-on-one business meetings. The business forum will focus on exploring ways to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas such as manufacturing innovation, supply chains, new consumer markets, and collaboration in services and content.
