People Power Party: "Jang Donghyuk Determined for 24-Hour Filibuster... Delivering a Strong Voice"

Jang Donghyuk Becomes the First Main Opposition Leader to Launch a Filibuster
"Purpose Is to Deliver the Strong Voice of the People Power Party to the Public"

Park Sunghoon, Chief Spokesperson of the People Power Party, emphasized on the 22nd that Jang Donghyuk, as the leader of the main opposition party, became the first in constitutional history to launch a filibuster (unlimited debate), stating, "The purpose is to strongly voice the People Power Party's condemnation of the law to establish a dedicated court for rebellion, which is at the core of judicial control by the Lee Jaemyung administration and the Democratic Party of Korea."

Speaking to reporters at the National Assembly's communication center that afternoon, Chief Spokesperson Park said, "I understand that Representative Jang took the podium with the determination to filibuster for 24 hours," reiterating the party's stance.

He added, "We do not know how long it will continue, but our determination is to deliver the strong voice of the People Power Party to the public, and we hope that even a single Democratic Party lawmaker will join us to prevent this wrongful bill from passing."

When the bill to establish a dedicated court for rebellion, being pushed by the Democratic Party, was introduced at the plenary session that day, Representative Jang became the first member of the People Power Party to take the podium for the filibuster.

Regarding the Democratic Party's agreement earlier that morning to promote the special prosecutor bill on the 'Unification Church Gate,' which was proposed jointly by the People Power Party and the Reform Party, Chief Spokesperson Park explained, "I believe the public's demand to accept a special prosecutor for the Unification Church and the joint proposal by the Reform Party and the People Power Party may have influenced their decision."

Chief Spokesperson Park further stressed, "Regardless of their intentions, as public opinion moved in that direction, it became inevitable for them to accept the special prosecutor bill," adding, "We urge them to accept it immediately without any further conditions or reservations."

He criticized the Democratic Party's push for a second comprehensive special prosecutor bill to further investigate remaining suspicions after the activities of the three major special prosecutors (concerning Kim Keonhee, rebellion, and the death of Private Chae) have ended, saying, "This is nothing more than a political offensive by the Lee Jaemyung administration and the Democratic Party," and added, "The public likely feels the same way."
