Ulleung's Night Illuminated by Light
The nights at the port are no longer dark.
On December 22, Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province will begin the permanent operation of a media facade installation at the Ulleungdo Dodong Port passenger terminal area.
The Dodong Port media facade will operate every day of the year from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., presenting new nighttime scenery at Dodong Port through media art content themed around Ulleungdo's nature, history, and culture.
The main content consists of a narrative video that tells the story of Ulleungdo's birth, nature, culture, and history as a single tale. Supplementary content expresses the four seasons of Ulleungdo through light and video.
Additionally, approximately 20 minutes of video content will be screened in rotation, including a welcome message for visitors to Ulleungdo, landscape photos of Dodong Port and Ulleungdo, and Ulleungdo music content. Seasonal content will also be presented, such as Christmas-themed videos in December and New Year's messages in January and February.
The media facade is an artistic media expression that projects video onto building exteriors, structures, or natural terrain, using them as screens. At Dodong Port, the natural rock face along the right bank promenade will be used as a large screen.
The rock face is approximately 60 meters wide and 40 meters high. Videos will be projected to highlight the texture and shape of Ulleungdo's volcanic rock and the trees growing on it, creating a three-dimensional nighttime landscape that harmonizes with the natural scenery. The viewing area is the outdoor space on the second floor of the passenger terminal, where visitors can enjoy the videos while feeling the sea breeze.
County Governor Nam Han-gwon stated, "The Dodong Port media facade will become a new tourism attraction representing Ulleungdo's nights," adding, "We expect it will greatly contribute to revitalizing tourism in the Dodong Port area by encouraging longer nighttime stays."
