Choi Jongsoo, Director of the Urban Railway Construction Bureau of Daejeon City, held a tea meeting with reporters on the second floor press room on the 22nd, announcing, "Section 12 of Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 will begin construction." He added, "This is a key section where both the Seodaejeon Overpass and Temi Hill will be placed underground, making it the most technically challenging among all sections."

Section 12 of Line 2 stretches 4.678 kilometers from Yucheon-dong (Beodne Apartment) to Munchang-dong (Bomun Bridge) in Jung-gu, with a total of six stations to be installed along the route.

The construction period is planned for 36 months, from September of this year until August 2028, with a total project cost of approximately 207.7 billion won. Construction will be handled by Kyeryong Construction Industrial Co., Ltd. and seven other companies, while supervision will be carried out by Donghae Engineering & Consultants Co., Ltd. and four additional firms.

This project requires a comprehensive approach to construction management and technical alternatives, taking into account process control, safety, and minimizing traffic impact. Therefore, it is being carried out through a technical proposal bidding method for the implementation design.

Accordingly, construction methods and phased construction plans that can enhance constructability and stability, as well as traffic management measures, were proposed through technical proposals. These details will be reflected in the implementation design and the project will proceed based on them.

The Seodaejeon Underpass will have a total length of 699 meters and a width ranging from 10 to 45 meters, with actual construction scheduled to begin at the end of this month. To minimize traffic impact, the construction will be divided into three sections and carried out in phases.

Additionally, the Temi Hill Underpass will be 1,101 meters long and 10 meters wide, with actual construction set to start in January 2026. Considering the area's concentration of major intersections, the project will be executed by operating multiple work zones simultaneously.

During the construction period, Daejeon City will also implement measures in the areas of traffic, safety, and public communication to minimize inconvenience for citizens.

The city plans to strengthen detour guidance on major arterial roads such as Gyebaek-ro, adjust the traffic signal systems on surrounding roads to improve traffic flow, and, if necessary, temporarily adjust the bus-only lanes on the Gyebaek-ro section. In addition, guidance for detour routes using the Taepyeong Underpass and the provision of traffic information will be implemented simultaneously.

Furthermore, to reduce inconvenience to citizens during construction, continuous information will be provided through radio, traffic forecasts, social media, the city website, banners, and electronic displays. A resident briefing session was completed in October, and currently, information boards and banners are installed at key locations.

Choi Jongsoo, Director of the Urban Railway Construction Bureau of Daejeon City, stated, "Going forward, we will flexibly operate construction and traffic management plans tailored to the circumstances, thoroughly monitor traffic conditions and citizen inconvenience at each stage of the process to maintain urban functions and ensure safety, and do our utmost to secure safety at the construction sites."
