On December 22, Osan City announced that it will introduce a new 'Veteran Honor Allowance' for veterans of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, granting 100,000 KRW per month from January next year.
This new allowance has been established to honor the sacrifices and contributions of war veterans and to support their stable livelihoods.
The city has been steadily expanding its support for those eligible for national merit. Since September, the city has increased the national merit allowance, raising the monthly payment from 70,000 KRW to 90,000 KRW for recipients under the age of 75, and from 110,000 KRW to 130,000 KRW for those aged 75 and above.
In addition, the city provides allowances to the spouses of deceased veterans and also grants activity allowances to the heads of veterans' organizations.
Furthermore, the city is implementing various other support measures, including: ▲ Honor Allowance and condolence payments for independence patriots ▲ Living assistance allowances for those with incomes below 50% of the median ▲ Living support payments for May 18 Democratization Movement veterans ▲ Medical expenses and grave maintenance support for independence patriots.
Next year, the city also plans to provide uniforms for the honor guard members of the Order of Military Merit Recipients Association.
Lee Gwonjae, Mayor of Osan City, stated, "I am deeply grateful for the noble sacrifices and dedication of each and every person eligible for national merit," and added, "We will continue to show respect and honor in the future."
