Anticipated Relief for Parking Shortages and Boost to Local Economy

Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) announced on December 22 that it will hold a completion ceremony for the 'Geombae Public Parking Lot', constructed to alleviate the severe parking shortage in the Sutaek-dong area, at 3:30 p.m. on December 29 at Geombae Neighborhood Park (San 2-4, Sutaek-dong, Guri City).

The newly completed Geombae Public Parking Lot covers a site area of 1,507 square meters, with three underground floors and one above-ground floor, offering a total of 97 parking spaces. The total project cost amounted to 12.1 billion won. In particular, the above-ground floor has been seamlessly integrated with the existing park, making it an eco-friendly parking facility.

The Sutaek-dong area is expected to see its existing public parking lots gradually demolished due to the Inchangcheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project. As the area is densely populated with multi-family residences and commercial buildings, residents have long suffered from chronic parking shortages.

To secure alternative parking spaces, the city began construction in August 2023 and completed the project quickly and meticulously. Smart parking management technologies, including a parking control system, unmanned payment machines, and CCTV, have been installed to enhance user convenience and safety.

An official from Guri City stated, "The completion of this public parking lot will serve as a crucial foundation for resolving a long-standing wish of local residents," adding, "We expect that expanding parking spaces will not only create a more pleasant residential environment but also greatly contribute to improving the city's transportation system."

After the completion ceremony, the city plans to operate the parking lot free of charge as a trial for about one month until January 31, 2026, for the convenience of citizens. Regular paid operations will begin in February 2026.

Meanwhile, Guri City plans to continue promoting resident-oriented transportation policies in the future.
