218 Billion Won Investment Including National and Provincial Funds
Full-Scale Expansion of Roads, Parking Lots, and Community Infrastructure (SOC)
Dongbu-ri in Punggi-eup, Yeongju-si, North Gyeongsang Province, has been selected as a final recipient of the "2025 Urban Regeneration Support Project for Deteriorated Residential Areas" hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
According to Yeongju City on December 22, with this selection, the city has secured large-scale financial support from the national and provincial governments, and will begin full-scale efforts to renovate deteriorated residential areas and improve living conditions.
The "Urban Regeneration Support Project for Deteriorated Residential Areas" is a core urban regeneration initiative by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, targeting densely populated areas of low-rise, aging houses where full redevelopment is difficult. The project aims to systematically renovate and expand infrastructure such as roads, parking lots, parks, and community facilities (SOC) to improve residents' quality of life and encourage private sector-led housing renovation and new construction.
The city plans to invest a total of 21.8 billion won over five years from 2026 to 2030, targeting approximately 95,500 square meters in the Dongbu-ri area of Punggi-eup. Of this, 10.5 billion won will come from national and provincial funds.
The main projects include: the creation of a multi-purpose community convenience center in Dongbu-ri; the opening of connecting roads within the village; the construction of parking lots and small parks; the remodeling of community facilities; and support for the demolition of vacant houses and home repairs. Through these efforts, the city aims to comprehensively improve deteriorated residential environments, ensure pedestrian safety, enhance parking conditions, and revitalize the local community.
Yeongju City expects that this project will inject new vitality into the Dongbu-ri area, which has been stagnating due to an aging population and deteriorating housing. The city also anticipates that residents will experience tangible improvements in their living environment and that a sustainable residential regeneration model will be established.
A city official stated, "Being selected for this Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport project marks a turning point for significantly improving the residential environment in Dongbu-ri, where full redevelopment had been difficult. We will actively incorporate residents' opinions to ensure smooth project implementation and will do our utmost to provide administrative support so that real, lasting changes can take place in the region."
