Online Shopping, Food Delivery, Taxi Rides, and KTX Reservations
BC Card announced on December 22 that it has launched the first-ever passport authentication payment service for foreigners among card companies.
The dedicated easy payment service for foreigners allows those without a foreign registration card to use Paybook for not only online shopping, but also food delivery, taxi rides, and KTX reservations.
In particular, most online payment services have been inaccessible to short-term foreign visitors without a foreign registration card and long-term residents before receiving their foreign registration card, due to the lack of a resident registration number.
To address this inconvenience, BC Card has established an online payment infrastructure based on foreigner prepaid cards issued by partner organizations.
Foreigners who receive a physical foreigner prepaid card from a partner organization can install Paybook on their own mobile phone and, during the registration process, authenticate their passport and register their card information. The service can be used immediately at approximately 3.5 million online and offline merchants nationwide.
This service is currently available through the 'K.ONDA' card issued by Danal. BC Card plans to expand partnerships with various companies in the future.
Jung Chul, Executive Director at BC Card, stated, "We plan to continue discovering new revenue streams targeting foreigners by expanding services to more partners and launching new services in the future."
