Announcement of Research Findings on 24 Selected Items from the Museum Collection
The National Hangeul Museum, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced on the 22nd that it has published an explanatory collection of its holdings titled "Hangeul, Upon Closer Look." The museum selected 24 items of outstanding linguistic and cultural value from among its previously undisclosed acquisitions from 2022 to 2023. Curators personally conducted investigations and research on these materials.

The museum sought to distinguish this publication from previous "Collections Series." Departing from a specialized academic format, it presents high-resolution images of original documents accompanied by detailed explanations, positioning the book as an accessible textbook for the general public.
The first English magazine published by Koreans in the United States, Jaemi Hanguk Haksaengbo, Vol. 1, No. 3 (June 1915), will also be unveiled for the first time. The museum will also showcase "The Korean Repository," the first English-language magazine published in Korea. Readers can gain insights into the language, culture, and society of Joseon as observed by foreigners such as Reverend Henry Appenzeller and missionary William Baird.
Kang Jeongwon, Director of the National Hangeul Museum, stated, "Through the publication of this explanatory collection, we hope to widely promote previously undisclosed items in our holdings and provide foundational resources for the study of Hangeul and Hangeul culture. We will continue to focus on researching our collections and making them available to the public, so that the value contained in Hangeul cultural heritage can be brought even closer to everyone."
