Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, "I have previously said that a special counsel investigation into the Unification Church is not possible. However, I also think there is nothing we cannot accept. I believe it would be good to include all those involved from the People Power Party and reveal the truth clearly and transparently."
Kim Byungki, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, also commented, "It seems that the People Power Party is under some kind of misconception. They are leading the call for a special counsel investigation into the Unification Church, as if the Democratic Party is avoiding it for some reason. They must have been convinced that the Democratic Party would not accept a special counsel. Let's proceed with the special counsel investigation into the Unification Church. We propose that all politicians from both the ruling and opposition parties, without exception, be included in the investigation."
He continued, "Let us also uncover how the Unification Church intervened in politics during the last presidential election," and emphasized again, "I propose that all suspicions of unconstitutional collusion between religion and politics, illegal political fundraising, lobbying, and exertion of influence be included in the scope of the special counsel investigation and thoroughly investigated."
He further stressed, "Collusion between religion and politics is a serious matter directly related to constitutional order. Any party that violates this could face dissolution, and those involved will not be able to avoid severe punishment."
