This project was carried out to improve parking convenience for Wonju citizens, following consultations with the Gangwon Facility Group of the Defense Facilities Agency and the Army 1st Logistics Support Command.

The city has created 117 parking spaces on the 2,915-square-meter site of the 612th Transportation Battalion (760 Taejang-dong), and 54 spaces on the 1,862-square-meter site of the former Armed Forces Hospital (69-11 Gahyeon-dong), securing a total of 171 public parking spaces. The total project cost was 220 million won.

The former Armed Forces Hospital has been closed since 2005, and the 612th Transportation Battalion since 2020, leaving both sites as long-term urban eyesores. The creation of these parking lots is expected not only to improve convenience for vehicle users, but also to help revitalize the local economy.

Won Kangsoo, Mayor of Wonju, said, "This parking lot project is a good example of cooperation between Wonju City and military units to enhance citizen convenience," adding, "We will continue to make every effort to create a better place to live in Wonju."
