The E&M Signs Strategic MOU with Mofac Studio for Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex Development

The E&M Signs Strategic MOU with Mofac Studio for Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex Development Jang Sungho, CEO of Mofac Studio, and Shin Hwanryul, CEO of The E&M. Provided by The E&M

The E&M announced on December 22 that it has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mofac Studio, a leading video production technology company in Korea, to successfully promote the Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex Project.

Through this agreement, The E&M and Mofac Studio plan to establish a mutual cooperation system centered on The E&M's ongoing "Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex Project (SOM:CITY)," and to maintain close collaboration across all areas, including content, technology, and spatial planning.

The main areas of cooperation under this MOU include: ▲ establishing a strategic partnership for the development and operation of the Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex (SOM:CITY); ▲ incorporating Mofac Studio's advanced technological capabilities in VFX (visual effects), CG, and virtual production into the studio complex's development and operational strategies; and ▲ collaborating on domestic and international joint marketing and venue rentals to attract joint projects with global content producers, OTT platforms, and film companies.

In particular, the two companies are considering applying Mofac Studio's technological expertise to key facilities such as the virtual production studio and experiential content spaces within the studio complex, as well as utilizing Mofac Studio's flagship IPs and production cases as content for the SOM:CITY promotional and experience centers.

Mofac Studio is a content production studio specializing in VFX technology, founded by Jang Sungho, one of Korea's first-generation VFX directors. CEO Jang has worked on more than 300 VFX projects over approximately 30 years, with notable works including "Joint Security Area," "Haeundae," "The Legend," and "My Love from the Star."

Additionally, the feature animation "King of Kings," which premiered in North America in April this year, achieved commercial success by ranking second at the North American box office right after its release. As a result, Mofac Studio is recognized as a content production company with global competitiveness across animation, VFX, and virtual production.

In this context, if the Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex, equipped with Hollywood-level production specifications, is completed, it is expected to create an environment where not only domestic but also global content production companies can handle everything from production to post-production within Korea.

A representative from The E&M stated, "This collaboration marks an important milestone in transforming the Cheongna Video and Cultural Complex from a simple development project into a comprehensive hub that combines global content production and technological innovation. Through our partnership with Mofac Studio, we will further enhance the content competitiveness of SOM:CITY."
