Kuchar Father and Son Win PNC Championship: "We Are the Strongest Family"

Matt Kuchar (United States) won the PNC Championship, a PGA Champions Tour event with a total prize fund of 1,085,000 dollars, alongside his son Cameron.

On December 21 (local time), at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club (par 72, 7,106 yards) in Orlando, Florida, the Kuchars combined for two eagles and fourteen birdies in the final second round, finishing with an 18-under-par 54. Their two-day total was 33-under-par 111. The 33-under-par score sets a new tournament record for the lowest winning score, surpassing the 28-under-par achieved last year by Bernhard Langer (Germany) and his son Jason by five strokes.

The Kuchars received a winner's prize of 200,000 dollars (approximately 296 million won). The tournament was played in a scramble format over two days, where each player hits a shot and the team continues from the better ball position.

The PNC Championship was established in 1995. Initially, only players who had won a major championship or The Players Championship (often called the "fifth major") could compete, teaming up with their children in pairs. In 2017, the event expanded to allow players' parents to participate, and in 2019, Annika Sorenstam (Sweden) became the first female player to compete. Since then, Nelly Korda (United States) has also participated in the tournament with her father, a former tennis player.

Kuchar is a veteran with nine career wins on the PGA Tour. His partner Cameron is a junior golfer who will enter college next year. In 2018, Kuchar played in this tournament with his father Peter and finished ninth; he lost his father in February this year.

John Daly and his son John Daly II, as well as Davis Love III and his son Dru, tied for second place at 26-under-par 118. Korda and her father Petr finished tied for fourth at 25-under-par 119. The Langers, who were aiming for a third consecutive victory, finished tied for seventh at 23-under-par 121, while Sorenstam and her son Will McGee finished 18th at 16-under-par 128. Last year's runner-up, "golf legend" Tiger Woods (United States), who lost in a playoff with his son Charlie, did not compete this year due to the aftereffects of back surgery.
